The Symbol

 

The rock jutted above the punishing sea

Standing defiantly tall

Seeming invulnerable to the attack

An inspiration to one battered by life

 

However, time told a different story

This is but the peak of a land

Where trees once stood

And families made their homes

 

This is the proud last stand

Of a place where birds sang

Now gulls cling precariously to it’s last ledge

Before wheeling off to fish

 

This is the shrinking evidence

Of a changing world

Below the surface lies a clue

A symbol of the sun carved into the stone
